Real El Canario DJ Biography
Through the years, the culture called Hip-Hop has touched the lives of millions of people worldwide...
This is about one of those lives in particular, the life of a guy born on the Canary Island of Tenerife in ' 74, a guy who, at the age of ten, became fascinated with the different elements of Hip-Hop.
Ezequiel V. Real became possessed by the energy of that new movement. At that point in time,Hip-Hop-music was still very much about DJ's playing sets that were composed of breaks from a range of musical styles(Funk, Pop, Punk to name a few). So that's how, in ' 84,young Ezequiel had his first taste of Hip-Hop...and that flavour is still the key to Real’s style. It's that eighties B-boy-attitude a key-factor in the success of the man called DJ Real 'el Canario.
He started professionally in 91 in Tenerife where he remains the most popular Dj in the island. He is responsible among a few other Dj’s of the tremendous raise of Urban music in the Canary islands, where Urban artists surprisely sell more units than in areas like Madrid or Barcelona. in the year 2000, it was time to move out of the island, to Amsterdam, where he's had an overwhelming impact from the get-go. Building a strong fan base by breaking barriers, and Based on feeling not on opportunity his distinctive, energetic 'genre-blending' style is undeniable and made him draw the attention of promoters, fellow DJ's and audiences alike. In a considerably short time, 'el Canario's hard work has made him a fan- favourite with an impressive amount of 'spots-that-got-rocked' under his belt. (Mystery Land, Dancevalley, Inner city, Ambassador, Luxurush, Chocolate, Bassline, Paradisco ,S.p.o.d.s , Expornstar, Salsa lounge etc… )
The significance of “the Tenerife tornado” in the Dutch club scene is quiet evident. The scene was clearly inspired by Real’s record selections and amazing technique. In result to that, in 2006 Holland has its own “urban” sound, contrary to countries like Germany or Belgium in The Netherlands if you’ll visit a “urban” party you’ll get to hear a lot more than hip hop, R&B, Dancehall records. Real has a lot to do with that fact, He settled the trend, he opened a new door for the club scene, what they call the “eclectic scene”.
But while most people nowadays refer to Real's-voodoo-that-he-do as 'Eclectic', he himself still simply considers it to be 'Hip-Hop' "I'm a Hip-Hop-DJ, I play records from a Hip-Hop-perspective, but my music knowledge has no boundaries".
Real El Canario is a trend setter in the full meaning of the word, He opened a new door in the club scene and inspired others to enter.
"Years ago I first got inspired by individuals who were about expressing themselves through hip hop, Hopefully, by what I do I also pass on that inspiring feeling to others."
